Injured in a Holly Springs crash

Julian Doby represents people hurt in Holly Springs crashes from his only office, in Graham. The first meeting is by phone or video. Inside town limits, the Holly Springs Police Department responds, and the town sends accident report requests to NCDMV.

I represent people hurt in crashes in Holly Springs, and I do it from my office in Graham. My first meeting with a Holly Springs client is by phone or video, since I have no office in Holly Springs or anywhere in Wake County.

The facts below belong to Holly Springs and to no other town. A toll expressway now has an interchange on Holly Springs Road, a hospital sits on South Main Street, and the town sends crash report requests to the state. The county-wide courthouse and crash totals sit on the Wake County page.

How many crashes does NCDOT record in Holly Springs?

NCDOT's 2025 city ranking counts 3,163 reported crashes in Holly Springs from January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2025. The figure covers three years, not one.

A town total describes traffic and nothing about a single collision. It does not say who caused a crash or what a claim is worth. The severity breakdown is on the Holly Springs crash statistics page.

Who responds to a crash on Toll NC 540 compared with a town street?

Location decides it. G.S. 20-166.1 sends a crash inside a city or town to that town's police department. Outside town limits the statute names the State Highway Patrol or the sheriff's office or other qualified rural police of the county where the crash happened.

The driver's duty comes first. A driver in a reportable crash notifies the appropriate agency immediately, by the quickest means of communication, under the same statute. The Highway Patrol puts the agency question plainly in its answers to motorists. Where a crash occurs decides who shows up, and the responding agency handles the report for that location. Inside town limits that agency is the Holly Springs Police Department at 750 Holly Springs Road, which lists weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and emergency response around the clock.

The report comes from somewhere many people do not expect. The town's public records page sends accident report requests to NCDOT's crash reports service, and the police FAQ says copies of accident reports come from the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles. The Holly Springs crash report page walks through that request.

What changed when Toll NC 540 opened near Holly Springs?

A new expressway opened, and NCDOT lists Holly Springs among the towns it connects. NCDOT announced that the North Carolina Turnpike Authority would open the Complete 540 Phase 1 extension of the Triangle Expressway on September 25, 2024. NCDOT describes the roughly 18-mile segment as running from the N.C. 55 Bypass in Apex to the I-40 and I-42 interchange in Garner, with a diverging diamond interchange at Holly Springs Road, exit 50. The other interchanges NCDOT listed on that segment include Bells Lake Road, U.S. 401, Old Stage Road and N.C. 50 at Benson Road.

The road is tolled. NCDOT says NC Quick Pass handles toll collection, and a driver without an account gets a toll invoice by mail at a higher rate. NCDOT schedules the whole project, which continues to Knightdale, for completion in 2028.

The crash statutes do not change on a toll road. The duty to notify law enforcement and the officer's 24-hour report under G.S. 20-166.1 apply on Toll NC 540 the same as on Main Street.

Which Holly Springs roads are being widened?

The town calls Holly Springs Road one of the most heavily traveled thoroughfares in town. Its west widening runs from the N.C. 55 Bypass to Main Street, and the town has federal grant funds for a design phase it expects to begin in 2026. Town staff list NCDOT among the key partners engaged on the project.

Avent Ferry Road is slated to become a consistent median-divided, four-lane road with sidewalks between Ralph Stephens and Cass Holt roads. The town expects right-of-way acquisition to begin in 2027 and construction in 2029. A new southbound right turn lane on N.C. 55 from Avent Ferry Road to Main Street is under construction, with completion expected in 2026.

When a crash happens inside a work zone, photograph the lane shift and the signs before the crews move them.

Where is the hospital in Holly Springs?

UNC Health Rex lists Rex Holly Springs Hospital at 850 S. Main St. in Holly Springs. Its listing includes an emergency department with 24 beds and a dedicated OB emergency department, and the location's posted hours run from midnight to 11:59 p.m. every day of the week. The same listing names services that include orthopedic care, general surgery, imaging and radiology, and rehabilitation services.

Tell the emergency staff the injury came from a crash. Once you settle the case you have no opportunities to get treatment for problems that arise down the road.

How does a Holly Springs client work with me?

The first meeting is by phone or video, and I also meet clients in person. Admitted to practice in 1998, I represent injured people throughout North Carolina.

I see a lot of attorneys that don't look for multiple insurance policies. They sometimes just focus on one policy and settle. We look for every policy that could apply to the crash. I usually only turn down cases because I either have a conflict or because there is a problem with the case.

When a commercial truck is involved, the truck crash page covers the federal rules that come into the claim. I am very realistic with my clients in a compassionate way. The office is at 110 W. Elm Street in Graham, the number is 336-221-8900, and the office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
