Hurt in a Wake Forest crash

Julian Doby represents people hurt in crashes in Wake Forest from his only office, in Graham. The first meeting is by phone or video. Inside town limits, the Wake Forest Police Department is the agency that investigates and reports a crash.

I represent people hurt in crashes in Wake Forest. My office is in Graham, and the first meeting with a Wake Forest client is by phone or video. There is no office in Wake Forest or anywhere else in Wake County.

Wake Forest has its own set of facts after a crash. Two county governments list the town as one of their municipalities, and in May 2025 its police department published a list of high-risk intersections that leans heavily on Capital Boulevard. The county-wide material on courts and crash totals is on the Wake County page, so this page stays with the town.

Who writes the crash report in Wake Forest?

The agency that answers the call writes the report. G.S. 20-166.1 says that if a crash happens in a city or town, the appropriate agency is the police department of that city or town. If it happens outside a city or town, the statute names the State Highway Patrol or the sheriff's office or other qualified rural police of the county where the crash happened.

Inside Wake Forest that agency is the Wake Forest Police Department. The town lists its main station at 745 Merritt Capital Dr., Suite 113, with a non-emergency number of 919-554-6150, and the department also lists a downtown substation at 225 S. Taylor St.

US 1 and NC 98 carry traffic into the town and back out of it. The Highway Patrol's own answers to motorists say local police usually respond inside city limits, the Patrol typically handles crashes outside them, and the agency that responds handles the report for that location. On a road like Capital Boulevard the town line decides which agency is responsible. NCDMV's crash report form has fields for the officer's name and department, so the report itself tells you who wrote it.

The Wake Forest crash report page covers the town's online report system and the NCDMV request for a trooper's or deputy's report.

Does it matter that Wake Forest reaches into Franklin County?

Sometimes it does. Wake County Government lists Wake Forest among its twelve municipalities. Franklin County Government lists Wake Forest among its municipalities as well.

Inside town limits the county line does not change the reporting agency, because the statute points to the town police department wherever the town sits. Outside town limits it matters. The sheriff the statute names is the sheriff of the county where the crash happened, so a crash just past the town line on the Franklin County side belongs to Franklin County's sheriff or to the Highway Patrol.

The county also goes on paper. NCDMV's crash report request form asks for the county of the crash, and for a Wake Forest crash that answer is not always Wake.

Which Wake Forest roads do official sources name?

Capital Boulevard is the road NCDOT is planning around. Its Capital Boulevard North Upgrade covers US 1 between I-540 in Raleigh and Purnell and Harris roads in Wake Forest, in four segments. The southern pair runs from I-540 to Durant and Perry Creek roads and then to Burlington Mills Road. The northern pair runs from Burlington Mills Road to N.C. 98 Business at Durham Road and then on to Purnell and Harris roads.

NCDOT says the project is moving into final design. Design is underway on the two southern segments, and NCDOT expects design work on the northern segments to restart in late 2026.

Construction on the two southern segments is scheduled to begin in 2031 and on the northern pair in 2033. The road was studied as a possible toll road from January 2024 to November 2025. NCDOT says that evaluation has ended and the upgrade is proceeding as a traditional, non-tolled roadway.

The town's transportation planning page names a South Main Street corridor study. It covers South Main Street from US 1 at Capital Boulevard to the NC 98 Bypass, which the town calls Dr. Calvin Jones Highway. In May 2025 the police department published its top seven high-risk intersections, and Capital Boulevard appears in five of them.

NCDOT's 2025 city ranking counts 3,901 reported crashes in Wake Forest from January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2025. That is a three-year total. The Wake Forest crash statistics page breaks it down and lists the seven intersections.

Which Raleigh emergency rooms do WakeMed and Duke Health list?

WakeMed lists the emergency department at WakeMed North Hospital, located in North Raleigh, as open around the clock. Duke Health lists the Duke Raleigh emergency room at 3400 Wake Forest Rd. in Raleigh, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That address carries the town's name in the street, and it is in Raleigh.

Tell the emergency staff the injury came from a motor vehicle crash, and keep every follow-up appointment after that. You cannot have delays and gaps in medical treatment. It severely damages the value of your case.

How do I handle a Wake Forest claim from Graham?

The first meeting is by phone or video. I also meet clients in person.

The laws change constantly and insurance policies have to be reviewed to determine coverage and stacking of policies. Insurance companies don't all come forward and tender coverage after an accident, so we go looking for every policy that could apply.

I was admitted to the North Carolina bar in 1998. I represent injured people anywhere in the state in car crash claims, truck and motorcycle crash claims, and wrongful death claims for families. I get upset with the way that insurance adjusters treat unrepresented injured people. I never promise an amount of damages to a client.
